Recovering Homes

We’re key partners in county-wide action and members of a growing national network committed to changing how hoarding is understood and supported. Low-value, removal-led responses aren’t backed by evidence. Hoarding is complex and needs skilled, qualified care that’s therapeutic, trauma-informed, and rooted in peer-led approaches. Recovering Homes combines social work and psychotherapy, drawing on over 35 years of experience supporting people in complex communities.

Recovering Homes Overview

What People Say About Us

Service User

I was apprehensive before I started on the in-home programme. I felt shame and I now know I wasn’t ready. Natalie came into my home and spent about an hour with me and explained what would happen. I felt reassured by our discussions. Natalie never pushed me – she did ask questions and at times this could be challenging – but I didn’t feel pressurised and sometimes said “No”.

Over time and after spending time talking, I started to feel ready to let go of items and that’s when I realised I hadn’t been ready before. I felt listened to and my self-esteem has improved significantly. It was important to me that I knew exactly where my items were going and so I have arranged for them to go to a local good cause. Things aren’t perfect, but my thinking has changed and I have a plan to make my living environment better.

Service User

“The support and skills I got from working with Reaching have helped me in my new home to keep it clean and organised. My hoarding disorder is much more under control at this point, and I can confidently state that, if it had not been for their help and intervention, I would have been in a far worse position, both now and when it came for the time to move to my new home.

The service helped me when I was in a very low and difficult place, and they did so without making me feel like a burden or judged for my problems. I came away from my time with them helping me in a much better place, both mentally and physically, and would recommend them to anyone in need of similar help.”

Support Group Attendee

Thank you so much for the invite to today’s session. I found it very comforting to connect with others who understand and to be in guided sessions with useful information. Very much appreciate what you do!

Professional

“I recently supported a lady suffering with complex Mental Health issues, which caused her to develop hoarding issues. This was taking over the property and putting her tenancy at risk.

She was able to receive support in a structured professional manner. This resulted in her being able to regain control of her hoarding issues, which were having a significant impact on her Mental Health. The project is a benefit in being able to provide short term intervention to support individuals in the local community managing complex Mental Health. Their staff are excellent in the professional support which they provide.”

Professional

“I appreciate their commitment to finding innovative solutions and their willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of my service user. Their professionalism and compassion have been instrumental in achieving successful outcomes for the individual.”
